Julia Margaret Cameron may have been the first person, living in India, to see a sun print. Her dear friend, Sir John Herschel, inventor of the cyanotype, posted her talbotypes in 1842 from his home in Kent, England.

A post script written by Herschel’s wife:
Perhaps you may know Mr. Fox Talbot two of whose drawings Herschel has sent you. He is one of the most successful – indeed the first Photographer in England, and has just invented a still more perfect and rapid process which he calls Calotype, described in the Literary Gazette.

The cyanotypes here were made in Sri Lanka, where Julia Margaret spent the last few years of her life and died. I and ten JMC scholars retraced her steps.
